IBM new Integrated System provides a foundation for fast and reliable deployment of cloud

Recently, IBM has released a series of new enterprise-class cloud products based on mainframe, designed to help customers and service providers reduce operating costs and quickly deploy reliable cloud services with mainframe technology. Today's release includes the first system z based integrated systems IBM Enterprise Cloud System (IBM Enterprise Cloud system).

The new IBM Enterprise Cloud System provides an open standard integration platform for customers and service providers who want to quickly build a trusted cloud environment that supports critical workloads.

With large hosts capable of supporting up to 6,000 virtual machines in a single system, providing a secure multi-tenant environment and dynamically sharing resources across workloads, System Z has a unique advantage in the enterprise cloud infrastructure requirements for cloud service providers and dynamic private cloud deployments. Due to higher system efficiency and greater scalability, the total cost of Linux on System z cloud deployments can be reduced by up to 55% compared to the x86 equivalent cloud infrastructure.

Based on these advantages, IBM Enterprise Cloud system shipped automated Cloud Choreography (automated Cloud orchestration) and monitoring capabilities to enable customers to quickly deploy enterprise-class cloud services. Consolidating system z Hardware, IBM storage, and IBM Cloud management software into an IAAS solution will help it enterprises and cloud service providers provide differentiated service levels in critical business workload support. The quality of service delivered by these hosts also helps cloud infrastructure providers address many of the common security and downtime concerns associated with the cloud infrastructure.

Today, the cloud computing market is evolving, and cloud computing is tending to serve an unprecedented amount of it workload types, and customers are increasingly moving to large hosts as the basis for their cloud deployments. For example, Business connextions (BCX), Africa's largest enterprise cloud service provider, is developing an innovative "box cloud" solution cloud-in-a-box to help telecoms companies provide Internet services to areas not previously covered. The energy consumption of these "pop-up" (pop-up) data centers is similar to that of a dryer, which will help BCX to provide Internet cloud services to 85% of African residents who do not have connection support.

"Large hosts allow us to deliver all the cloud services through a low-power, single system," says Jacques Loubser, general manager of BCX, "which means we don't have to build large data centers, we can build smaller data centers, and even use mobile data centers to quickly deliver services to our customers." ”

Large-scale mainframe--to help key research projects

The analysis capability of Mainframe is also applied to important research projects. As part of today's press release, IBM has announced three new projects, some of which are IBM's Foak project (first a Kind, the most cutting-edge research project in all fields), and some provide new analytical capabilities to the scientific community to meet difficult challenges.

The IBM Institute is currently working with a number of cities and core business partners to carry out Foak projects to collect data and help government agencies migrate IT operations to the system Z-based cloud environment. This new environment will help to improve the sharing of data among departments, agencies and Governments, thereby improving public services.

In addition, IBM is working with medical scientists on two important projects, one to help ease the pain of arthritis sufferers and the other to help eradicate the AIDS disaster in Africa.

Although there are already measures to treat rheumatoid arthritis, only 30% of rheumatoid arthritis patients respond to tumor necrosis factor therapy. The IBM Institute and the Arthritis Foundation use mainframe computing power to collect data and develop predictive models to help doctors understand which patients are most likely to respond to tumor necrosis factor therapy.

Finally, the Government of Ghana recently announced that it is working with IBM and Yale University to help researchers address the challenges of eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Medical workers in Ghana will use mobile devices to collect data that will then be uploaded to IBM mainframe for analysis, providing a core insight into prospective and preventive treatment.
