IBM Open Cloud Computing: IaaS and KVM

Recently, IBM has invested heavily in its KVM virtualization Public Cloud IaaS Foundation and has transformed the service's brand into Enterprise-class Zhihuiyun (SmartCloud Enterprise) and enhanced Zhihuiyun (smartcloud+), and announced plans to sell more hosting services and corporate capabilities to this public cloud service this year.

In essence IaaS is also an integrated architecture, so IaaS brings together a lot of technology. including virtualization, performance monitoring, intelligent migration and remote Technology control. One of the most core components of the IaaS cloud of virtualization technology is the current mainstream IaaS using Xen and KVM based open source solutions.

The kernel based virtual machine (KVM) is an open virtualization technology that supports the building of cloud computing modules. It is developed by a large, active, open community that includes Red Hat, IBM, SuSE, and many other it leading vendors. KVM Technology leverages Linux reliability, scalability, and security to provide an enterprise-class, cost-effective virtual machine management platform for Linux and Windows workloads.

Open Virtualization and KVM provide customers with another option to gain virtualization capabilities, a large ecosystem, including independent software developers, system integrators, and cloud service providers, has been built around KVM, and an Open Virtualization Alliance (OVA) has been set up, including IBM, Red Hat, Intel, etc. In November, IBM's world's first KVM Center of Excellence settled in Beijing, helping Chinese customers, software developers and partners to adopt open virtualization technologies to support the development of their cloud computing projects.

Recently, IBM has provided a KVM solution to support IBM SmartCloud entry. The software can quickly convert virtualized systems into private clouds, including customer web portals for self-service workload preparation, workload measurement, and virtual machine mirroring management
