According to the Daily Mail of October 26, the International domain name or address, which can be written by non-English characters, is expected to be approved this week, triggering the biggest change in internet creation in 40 years. The Internet name and address allocation Agency (ICANN) is meeting this week in Seoul, where the board will decide whether to allow the entire Internet address to be used for characters that are not based on the Latin alphabet. As Web addresses can be written in languages such as Chinese, Arabic, Korean, Japanese, Greek, and Slavic, this may open the Internet to more people around the world. At present, there are 1.6 billion internet users in the world, more than half of the use of the language is not Latin, so this change not only for the current half of the netizen is very important, as the number of Internet users continue to grow, the proportion of netizens affected by it will reach half. ICANN Board Chairman Peter Den to Tes Troussy that this is the biggest technological change since the internet was invented 40 ago. He expects the ICANN board to approve the new multilingual address system in Friday, the last day of the meeting. To make this change, Troussy says, you need to create a system that translates multilingual scripts into the correct addresses. He believes that the work will be feasible because they have been tested for several years and should now be vigorously promoted. Beckstrom, ICANN's new president and chief executive, said that if the change were approved, ICANN planned to begin accepting non-English domain names next month, and that the first entry system could be implemented sometime in the middle of 2010. Beckstrom said that the new system can enable netizens to visit the site to reduce character input, user-friendly access to corporate websites. (Feng Weidong)
