ICANN to address top-level domain name to expand IP address

June 26--ICANN began a week-long meeting in Monday. The meeting will address some of the key issues of new top-level domain names, internationalized domain names, and the organization's efforts to become more accountable and transparent organizations.

This international public meeting is the second meeting of such an ICANN meeting scheduled for this year. The meeting will also discuss issues such as the large number of IP addresses and the procedures for authorizing domain name registration companies.

The opportunity to take advantage of this meeting, held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, also included the first plenary meeting of the Latin American and Caribbean free Organization, which was formed in March this year.

' We are delighted to be in Puerto Rico, ' said ICANN's president and chief executive Paul Twomey at a news conference. The agenda of this meeting is an important issue and effort. One of ICANN's key efforts, he said, is to improve the transparency of its operations and take responsibility for its decisions. This is the area where critics complain the most.

In Sunday, ICANN posted a discussion on the Web at San Juan's meeting, a set of principles and frameworks for accountability. Twomey says ICANN wants to make it easier for people to find a lot of information on their websites. ICANN also needs to publish the meeting's situation and plans more quickly.

ICANN's meeting in San Juan was the 29th session of the National public meeting. The meeting will end in Friday.
