London, June 24 (Xinhua) The Bank of China and ICBC topped the global banks with $21.3 billion trillion, according to last year's profit rankings, published on 24th by the UK's Banker magazine, the latest ranking of the world's 1000 largest banks. The second to fifth place of profit was CCB (17.5 billion USD), Spanish International bank (USD 15.8 billion), Bank of China (USD 12.6 billion) and BBVA Bank of Spain (USD 9.6 billion). However, JPMorgan Chase ranked first, with Bank of America, Citigroup, Royal Bank of Scotland and HSBC in the second to fifth place, according to the ranking of capital strength (i.e. level I). Japan's Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, the highest ranked Asian bank, ranked seventh. Global banking profits plunged 85% per cent to $115 billion last year, according to the banker, while returns on equity fell to 2.69% from 20% a year earlier.
