IDC: Global PC shipments reached 133.5 million per cent year-on-year down 3.7%

This year, global PC shipments dropped 3.7% to 133.5 million Beijing time August 28 news, according to the Science and Technology website ZDNet report, IDC Wednesday in a new report forecast, the global PC shipments fell 3.7% year-on-year, to 133.5 million units. Recently, a number of analysis and tracking reports on the PC industry have hinted that the global PC market is beginning to recover, but IDC's latest forecast has maintained a more conservative outlook on the PC market, suggesting that global PC shipments are still on a downward trend this year. But better than expected: IDC's forecast, released earlier this year, said global PC shipments fell 16% per cent year-on-year. IDC analysts warn that the rebound in PC shipments may take longer due to political turmoil and economic uncertainty, especially in markets in Asia/Pacific, Latin America, Central Europe, the Middle East and Africa. But for mature markets such as North America and Western Europe, the slowing trend in PC shipments is likely to be mitigated (at least to some extent). IDC analysts again stressed that Microsoft to stop the Windows XP system support services, as well as mandatory replacement, will become the main catalyst for the PC market consumption. Loren Loverde, IDC's vice-president for personal computer tracking services, Lohren LAFDI that the competitive impact of Tablet PCs on PC consumption appears to be waning, and that the Windows 9 system, which Microsoft is about to launch next year, will also spur PC demand growth. Jay Chou, a senior research analyst at IDC, Jes Zhou, adding that the entire PC market has accelerated innovation and focused more on product prices as more consumption has shifted to mobile PC products. But Zhou also warned PC industry analysts that the PC industry's recovery should remain cautious, after all, more and more end users believe that PCs are only one category of computing devices.
