In the second quarter of this year, the global PC shipments reached 74.4 million units, down 1.7% Beijing time July 9 Morning News, the U.S. market research company IDC released a report in Wednesday, the second quarter of this year, the world's PC shipments reached 74.4 million, a year-on-year decline of 1.7%. The figure hit a minimum drop in global PC shipments since the second quarter of 2012. IDC initially expected PC shipments to fall 7.1% in the second quarter, which was better than expected because of the upgrading of commercial PCs and the renewed interest of consumers. Although Microsoft has stopped supporting Windows XP in early April this year, the system migration seems to be still ongoing. Strong growth has been achieved in many large PC makers, with early indications that some parts of the desktop equipment shipments are better than expected, indicating that companies are still buying such products. The consumer sector also seems to be better than expected, with an increase in the level of activity in low-end models and Chromebook. According to geographical regions, Europe, the United States and Canada are the strongest growth, reflecting a more stable situation. Japan could have been a decent performance, but it has seen a big increase in the previous quarter and a new tax rate that limits growth in the second quarter. In contrast, PC shipments in emerging regions are still falling, suppressed by weak economic conditions and political problems. From the manufacturer's point of view, the world's top five PC manufacturers in the second quarter of the increase in shipments of 9.8%, but the remaining companies fell 18.5%. Lenovo continues to lead the world with a 19.4% share, with Hewlett-Packard ranked second in 18.3%, followed by Dell (14%), Acer (8.2%) and Asus (6.2%). In addition to Acer's decline of 2.5% per cent year-on-year, the remaining manufacturers have achieved year-on-year growth in shipments. Lenovo, Hewlett-Packard and Dell grew by more than 10%. (PEI)
