Symantec recently issued an alert that Internet Explorer 6 has an snapshot vulnerability that can affect the Microsoft Access database by firing the Viewer ActiveX control.

This vulnerability could be exploited by web-hung horses, the use of malicious code in IM information and spam, and the greatest harm could be caused to an attacker directly taking over the victim's PC.

Symantec recommends that the security rating for IE be set to not run ActiveX controls to prevent medium strokes.

Microsoft has not yet indicated when the patch will be released, but the next patch Tuesday on August 12. Hackers are now "developing" an attack toolkit for this vulnerability.
