Nairobi, March 8 (Xinhua) International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn said in Nairobi 8th that countries could pay for climate change by the amount of IMF share. Mr. Strauss-Kahn said the same day, in order to raise funds to deal with global climate change, countries can be similar to the IMF share system to recognize the funds. The IMF currently has 185 Member States, and countries are paying as much as they share. Mr Strauss-Kahn believes that this method of financing is more efficient than other methods. "We all know that raising money (through carbon tariffs and other methods) will take days, and we just don't have the time," said Mr Strauss-Kahn. So we need a transitional approach. "Mr Strauss-Kahn believes the funding will also help countries reach a consensus on climate change by the end of the year. However, Mr. Strauss-Kahn did not disclose details of the day, the IMF will be issued within 10 days of detailed reports. According to internationally accepted methods, the world needs 100 billion of dollars a year to cope with droughts, floods and food shortages due to climate change by 2020, Mr. Strauss-Kahn said. At the end of last year, the U.N. Climate change conference in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, reached a non-binding agreement. More than 190 countries will continue to negotiate in Cancun, Mexico, at the end of this year, hoping to unveil a new deal. "Print" "Error correction" "Comment" "Editor's Mailbox" (Editor: Xu Bong)
