Researchers at the MIT Media Lab have successfully created a Web application called Immersion, and when the user has granted permission to do so, Immersion digs into the user's email history and then pieces together those histories into a Personal-centric "e-mail life."

Now that it might be frightening for NSA and Google to see the user's email metadata, then Immersion may be able to appease users' emotions.

In Immersion, Immersion simply analyzes the sender / receiver (including cc) and timestamps of the message, bypassing the "subject" and the message body. However, the results presented by Immersion are impressive as well, and the results include a list of all the people the user has contacted and all the logical connections between them.

César Hidalgo, Immersion's team member, told the Boston Globe: "All the data is actually linked to 'people,' but data does not make sense if you do not care about relationships." The other two of the team The names are Daniel Smilkov (main research directions are Algorithms, Statistics , Data Analysis and Visualization) and Deepak Jagdish (Main Research Areas are Perception , Human Mind and Visualization ).

In the middle of the Immersion homepage, users can experience this application, but currently the application only supports Google's Gmail mailbox, users also need to give Immersion authorization. The user clicks on the "Login within via Gmail" button, and then enter the Google Gmail account and password, authorization, click the avatar section you can see your "mail contact network", but see the final result may need about 30 seconds Time (need to overpass the wall).

Immersion provides a completely new way to tap into a user's email history, and the platform allows users to delete their own data anytime. More importantly, Immersion contains more than just one meaning, but four layers: self-reflection, art, privacy, and tactics. It provides users with some different perspectives, after all, the current network, e-mail has become an important part of personal history.
