Back in 2010, I mentioned the beginning of the cloudwashing. At that time, the enterprise technology players every press release must mention "cloud" word. Who can say that they are too much? Cloud computing is a buzzword and a fad. These manufacturers are simply bragging about their customers.
It's not fun to call this trend "cloud-plated" four years ago, when it was simple.
Exposing the cloud is trickier today. In the real world, most businesses adopt a hybrid cloud model. They don't throw away existing assets-which look pretty good on tax returns-to move their infrastructure into the cloud. At the same time, the Pay-as model is not perfect, in fact, in some cases, the loss of more than earned. Internally deployed software and hardware headaches are also well known. It is best practice to take the golden mean between the data center and the public cloud.
Corporate giants understand these and start using them. The cloud is an option, not necessarily a threat, and the cloud can be used to sell more things.
Take IBM for example. The blue giant bought softlayer into the public cloud game and challenged Amazon AWS in a marketing campaign. However, the combination of SoftLayer and the blue Giants ' cloud ' results was opened to look for hardware and services. Is the SoftLayer here the only pure cloud work? Or can you say that the infrastructure that the IBM cloud relies on is just a derivative of an equation? So is it more appropriate to say that IBM is a service?

IBM and NiSource's deals are ostensibly a 7-year outsourced contract. But the deal involves SoftLayer, involving IBM services. The deal also mixes hardware and software. For IBM, Cloud computing is only a managed or outsourced derivative.
IBM's value proposition (value proposition) is: we run your infrastructure. Don't worry.
The value proposition of cloud computing sounds strikingly similar. Oracle's tone is quite similar. Who really suspects Oracle is a cloud player? Even workday and Salesforce have to fight with Oracle's software, the service product line.
We can talk endlessly about the feasibility of Oracle's model of getting into cloud computing, but the fact that the red stack of Oracle does cover many of the Cloud's territories is indisputable.
SAP wants to be a cloud computing company. We all know that software giant SAP is entering the market by acquiring Ariba and SuccessFactors. A Hana instance of competitive pricing can be purchased through SAP's website. To some extent, SAP is a cloud player, and SAP is building data center capacity to prove it. Being a cloud leader is certainly the ideal goal for SAP, but SAP's efforts cannot be simply summed up in the cloud.
HP also has its service model and cloud infrastructure available. HP embraced OpenStack and pledged to strongly support the core of the open source project OpenStack.
The reality is that corporate giants are embracing open source, but only to wrap their proprietary technology so that users are trapped.
In the end, one might say that the days of cloud-plating are gone. Nowadays, whatever is a cloud, the word has little meaning. We are all back to the day when we buy stacks and serve.
However, the real tech buyer is concerned with what I call the Cloud gene (DNA) change.
These people play something completely different. They pay more attention to the user interface. A cloud player does not need to protect the old business. Between a large license and a maintenance transaction, the sales commission pattern and the recurring revenue subscription model, the first cloud player will not be biased against the former.
To know whether cloud computing has changed the genes of large enterprise companies, just look at what the company has done for some time and the company's actions.
Before drawing a conclusion, don't lock yourself in a cloud-plated stack, first determine that you can identify changes in corporate culture and that you can be an innovative partner in the next few years.
