C114 Beijing Time February 2 Morning News (SHANGMU) India's Tata Newsletter (Tata Communications) released its financial results for the third quarter of 2009 to 2010 (2009 fourth) as at December 31, 2009. According to earnings reports, Tata reported a net profit of 2.818 billion rupees in the quarter (C114: About 60.84 million U.S. dollars), which grew more than 3 times times over the same period last year. However, Tata said in a statement that revenue from the fourth quarter fell to 8.235 billion rupees, a figure of 10.3146 billion rupees in the same period last year. Tata Telecom's wholesale voice revenue for the quarter was 2.96 billion yuan, down 36.6% per cent year-on-year. Enterprise and operator-level data business revenue of 3.26 billion rupees, down 18% year-on-year. Tata Communications, the telecoms operator of Tata Teleservices Tata Group, which specializes in broadband, is the first operator in India to launch a 802.16d fixed WiMAX service, according to C114. The first network was deployed in Bangalore (Bangalore) in 2007 and 1800 WiMAX base stations have been deployed in 144 cities as of October 2009.
