Install the multiprocessor (SMP) core under Red Hat Linux

Installation steps:

In the Linux environment, there are two different scenarios for installing the Linux multiprocessor core:

Situation One:

When installed, the system already has multiple processors, and customers can install Linux directly as a multiprocessor core.

Specific steps:

1, with red Hat Linux 6.2 CD Boot machine, in the presence of "boot:" type "text" Enter, into the text installation mode.

2, in the "Package Group Selection" window, according to the need to press the space bar to select or delete packages, if we want to add multiprocessor, we need to select the following "Select individual packages", select OK to continue.

3, in the following another "Package Group Selection" window, from the list to find and highlight the "System Environment/kernel", the space bar to expand. Select KERNEL-SMP.

4. Once the selection is successful, the system automatically installs the SMP core and starts with the core. At startup, the system can also be started with a single processor core, and the customer simply type "linux-up" after "Boot:".

Situation Two:

At installation, the customer does not choose to install KERNEL-SMP, the system defaults to the Single-processor core, and the user can upgrade the system by adding a multiprocessor core module.

Specific steps:

1, start red Hat Linux 6.2, log in as root, enter the character interface.

2. Insert the CD-ROM into the optical drive, #mount MNT, and mount the optical drive.

3, #cd/mnt/cdrom/redhat/rpms, enter the path of the module.

4, #rpm--install kernel-smp-2.2.14-5.0.i386.rpm, loading multiprocessor (SMP) modules.

5. #mkinitrd-V-f/boot/initrd-2.2.14-5.0smp.img 2.2.14-5.0smp, create the initialization program.

6, #vi/etc/lilo.conf, add multiple processor startup options, such as

Image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.14-5.0smp
Label=smp
Initrd=/boot/initrd-2.2.14-5.0smp.img
Read-only
Root=/dev/sda2

7, #lilo-V, reboot the machine, after "boot:" appears, type "SMP" enter, into the multiprocessor core.
