Installation and configuration of Server for NFS in Linux

NFS is a shorthand for net http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/19352.html ">file system, the network file system.

The network file system is one of the FreeBSD supported file systems, also known as NFS. NFS allows a system to share directories and files with others on the network. By using NFS, users and programs can access files on the remote system as they would access local files.

The following are the most obvious benefits of NFS:

1. The local workstation uses less disk space because the usual data can be stored on a single machine and can be accessed over the network.

2. Users do not have to have a home directory in the machine on each network. The home directory can be placed on an NFS server and available everywhere on the network.

3. such as floppy drive, CDROM, and zip® Storage devices like these can be used by other machines on the network. This can reduce the number of removable media devices on the entire network.

NFS has at least two main parts: one server and one (or more) clients. The client remotely accesses data stored on the server. To work properly, some processes need to be configured and run.

Server for NFS Installation

Check to see if the Linux system has nfs-utils and Portmap two packages installed
(These two packages are already installed by default RHEL4 system)

Command #rpm–q nfs-utils Portmap

Second, to see if the Server for NFS started

Command #service NFS Starus

#service portmap Status

Third, if the server does not start, open the Service (NFS is not fully open under the default service)

Command #service NFS Start

#service Portmap Start
