Intel greets large data age full "core" server rack development

Intel is speeding up its plans and technologies to meet the big data age. As part of the acceleration, Intel is expanding its new performance and scalability features of its Low-power Atom processor as well as its flagship Xeon processor. Intel is currently planning a new server rack architecture to increase the utilization of its components.

"Big data is a big business for Intel," says Lisa Graff, Intel Enterprise, Vice president and general manager of Intel Corporation, Lisa Graff, Graff, said at a media conference. Make its atom and Xeon processor series fully updated in 2013.

Atom

The Intel Atom Low Power processor has updated its 1200 series. The chip code-named Briarwood is designed specifically for storage servers. "We've built the hardware instead of RAID software," Graff said. Another two atom chips, one is Avoton one is Rangeley. Avoton is Intel's second-generation 64-bit micro-server system chip. And the Rangeley chip is for the network application.

Xeon

Intel's flagship Xeon processor is also fully updated. Entry-level Intel Xeon E3 processors, code-named Haswell processors debut this year. Haswell debut on a less than 13 watts status, and will include integrated graphics processing capabilities.

"8 years ago, Xeon was a core product and we changed the frequency," Graff said. "Now that we have other heads and bodies, we have to move."

Xeon E7

The Intel Xeon High-end series Xeon E7, code-named Ivy Bridge-ex will also be on the market in the fourth quarter of this year. "Originally you need a computer to put a 12T of memory in the system, now we give you a 8-slot server directly," Graff said. The Xeon E7 has a memory capacity of three times times the predecessor, and will benefit from the new reliability features, Intel's "Run Sure" technology. Graff said: "In our current product, this will be a big leap."

Rack structure

In looking beyond the silicon, we invented the atom and the Xeon chip, Intel now wants to invent a server rack structure, Intel proposed a new set of computers, memory, hard disk new rack architecture.

"We're working on a reference architecture that puts all the elements of the rack on a single component, including photovoltaic, solid-state hard disk storage, compute nodes and switches," Graff said. "This is a new suite of architecture modules that enable more flexible, efficient, and cost-effective structures on the rack." The optical film may be able to transfer the rack assembly speed to 100Gbps. Graff also mentions Intel's current reference framework for research, which is expected to be available in 2014.
