10 o'clock last evening, Intel, in the form of a conference call, released a strategic partnership with Fuzhou Rui-core Microelectronics Limited (Rockchip) to find an Intel architecture based solution for Intel's tablet. At the same time, the two companies will launch an Intel-owned mobile SOC (System on a Chip, on-board system) platform, which will carry the Intel Ling processor and Intel 3G Modem technology.

Rui-Core Microelectronics is a professional integrated circuit design company, founded in 2001, focusing on mobile internet, digital multimedia chip design, is a professional personal Mobile Information Terminal SOC Solution provider. Products currently cover Android Tablet PC, Android TV set-top box (smart TV), E-books, WiFi Bluetooth audio solutions.

The SOC platform is designed to add new members to the intel® SoFIA family, primarily for entry-level and cost-effective Android devices (temporarily flat only). The SoFIA series is Intel's integrated mobile system chip for entry-level and cost-effective mobile device markets, and a landmark for Intel's transformational mobility, initially formed in 2004-2005 and joined the Intel Mobile strategy map by the end of last year. Intel wants to use its own architecture to integrate processor chips and communications chips into a single system chip.

Up to now, the Sofia Chip family has a total of three members, including the expected fourth quarter of this year's dual-core 3G version, the first half of next year's four nuclear 3G version and LTE version.

Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said: "Strategic cooperation with Rui-core, and the upcoming series of products combining Intel architecture and communication solutions, all demonstrate Intel's determination to enter the international mobile market, we are very excited." We have also brought a new member to the Sofia family, and I believe all members of Sofia will meet with you in the first half of 2015. In the growing tablet market, we will use the fastest speed to develop more products. ”

I don't know how much of this determination, but in time, Intel wants to capture the tablet market's tail, which is a bit slow, and the Sofia chip has been out of date significantly later than other 28mm-volume arm chips, not to mention how long the Sofia's life cycle is. But Intel has previously emphasized two advantages:

1. Positioning-mainly to do entry-level and cost-effective Android equipment, it is likely to break the rules of the game or competitive pattern;

2. System integration single chip-although more than one company is doing this, Intel believes in its excellent architecture and says it lowers its cost by reducing the number of components from around 350 to 50 now;

There have been rumours that Intel might invest in Rui-core microelectronics, but there is no mention of any capital transactions in the conference call. Personally think that investment is a matter of sooner or later ...
