The UK is struggling to meet the needs of smartphones and tablets. Intel plans to abolish more than 400 it jobs by mid-April Tencent Technology Co., Ltd. March 13 compiled according to Intel's internal memo, Intel will cut more than 400 jobs from the company's Global information Technology division by mid-April. But these employees do not necessarily lose their jobs, they can find another job within the company. In the face of weak sales and fierce competition in mobile device microprocessors, Intel plans to shrink its global workforce by 5% this year. By the end of last year, Intel had a total of 108,000 employees, and a layoff plan meant that about 5,400 employees were cut. The internal memo was issued by Intel Chief Information Officer Kim Stevenson Kim Stevenson. The memo said the jobs were abolished to ensure that these areas were able to support Intel's success. She said the company would immediately start informing employees which positions were being cut and planned to notify every employee before April 15. Intel declined to comment on the authenticity of the memo, but Intel spokeswoman Chuck Muroi Chuck Mulloy said the figure and timetable were basically accurate, in line with the company's previously announced redundancy plan. Muroi said that other Intel IT department staff will carry out other business plans, and IT department layoffs do not reflect the size and timing of the company's downsizing. When Intel cuts staff, there are three phases, "redeployment". The retrenched staff can take a large severance payment and leave immediately, or stay in their position for two months to find new jobs either inside or outside the company. If they are not found at this time, they will lose their jobs and the severance payments will be reduced. Intel remains the world's largest chipmaker, but is struggling to meet the needs of smartphones and tablets and competes with its main rival, ARM, in the microprocessor arena. Intel expects 2014 revenue to be flat from the previous year, the company's fourth consecutive annual failure to grow revenue. Intel expects 40 million Intel-based Tablet PCs to be sold this year, up four times times from 2013, but the company's market share in the smartphone sector remains negligible.
