Intel remains the largest chipmaker, but its market share has been eroded by Samsung and Qualcomm

Beijing Time May 14 news, according to foreign media reports, market research company IC Insights local time Monday published research report, according to revenue, Intel is still the first major chip manufacturers, but the market share by Samsung and Qualcomm eroded.

Intel chip sales in the first quarter of this year were $11.56 billion trillion, down 3% from 11.87 billion dollars in the first quarter of last year.

Samsung's chip sales rose 13% to $7.95 billion, boosted by Apple's orders.

Global chip sales grew 2% to 53.5 billion dollars in the first quarter of this year. The fourth-largest chip maker's Qualcomm chip sales rose 28% to 3.9 billion U.S. dollars, the increase in the first place. Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips are used in a variety of the latest models of smartphones, including HTC One and some models of Galaxy S4.

TSMC, the first-largest chipmaker, grew 26% to 4.46 billion dollars; GlobalFoundries and Tsu are the second to third largest chip manufacturers.

Intel has the most advanced chip manufacturing plant in its current technology, and will start manufacturing 14 NM chips early next year. TSMC and GlobalFoundries are hoping to overtake Intel in the chip manufacturing process and start producing chips with 3D transistor technology next year.
