Although both arm and AMD are considering launching a low-power processor architecture for servers, Intel has made it clear that the Atom Low-power processor architecture will not be introduced into the server domain, according to foreign reports. The main idea here is that while the low power characteristics of atom are good for some specific products, their performance is currently not enough to meet the performance requirements of the server product. Although many companies have launched server-level system products with Intel Atom processors, Intel has never been published in official form. According to IDG News, Intel's vice president of Digital Enterprise Division, General manager of server Platform Division, Kirk B. "We're not against atom based servers, but we don't think atom will be widely used as a server processor," says Skaugen. "Arm, which currently has a leading edge on low-power processors, has repeatedly said it will enter the server market." AMD has also said its Bobcat architecture will target Low-power servers. This type of processor has great advantages over current AMD Opteron or Intel Xeon Server processors, although it has a significant advantage in standby power consumption. However, whether the server can meet the performance needs of the doubt, it will need to add a lot of single slot atom node on the motherboard, otherwise its advantages in low power can not be reflected. For example, the 2-Way Sandy Bridge EP system will have 16 processor cores and can support up to 32 threads at the same time. "Such a dual-slot system would have 32 threads, a much lower temperature than a 32 single core Atom processor." ”
