Phoenix Technology News Beijing Time September 13, according to the Boston Globe, Intel said in Thursday that the company would close at the end of 2014 in a chip factory in Hudson, Massachusetts, which would cause 700 of people to lose their jobs. "The facilities and plants of the plant are no longer meeting our needs," said Chack Muroi Chuck Mulloy, a spokesman for Intel. "The plant was originally built by a closed computer company, Digital equipment, and was acquired by Intel in 1998." It has been using chip manufacturing technology for more than 10 years, behind four generations than the technology used at Intel's most advanced plants. Therefore, it mainly produces some low-end chips. Muroi said the company would cut 100 employees in the next three months to four months and that the remaining staff would temporarily retention until the factory closed. These employees will receive severance payments and have the opportunity to apply for other Intel jobs. Intel also owns a research and development center in Hudson with 850 employees.
