January 27, the Wall Street Journal website reported that Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou said at the company's 40 anniversary meeting in Sunday that the company is evaluating a plan to build an advanced display panel factory in the United States.

Mr. Gou said Hon Hai plans to move capital-intensive High-tech manufacturing operations to the US, and that "automation, software and technology innovation will be the focus of our US business in the coming years".

Hon Hai has been looking for new revenue growth because of slower growth in foundry production. Hon Hai said last November that it might invest 40 million of dollars (about 240 million yuan) in production and research institutions in Pennsylvania State.

In Sunday, Mr. Gou said Hon Hai was studying the feasibility of building a tenth generation LCD manufacturing facility in the United States. The tenth generation LCD panel factory can produce LCD panels larger than 60 inches. He said it is difficult to transport large size televisions from Asia to the United States. Hon Hai and Sharp reached an agreement in 2012 to buy 50% per cent of the Advanced panel manufacturing facility in Sakai, Japan. "We will continue to invest in display panels because it is an important component of all products, including smartphones, tablets and televisions," Mr Gou said. ”

Mr Gou also said Hon Hai was still working with BMW and Audi on "big projects" but did not disclose details. Hon Hai also dabbled in areas such as medical, automotive and environmental products. Hon Hai's business unit is already supplying the display to Tesla, he said.

In order to diversify the manufacturing base, Hon Hai plans to make Indonesia a major production base in the next few years, Mr. Gou said. At present, Hon Hai has production plants in more than 10 countries, including China, Vietnam, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico and Hungary.

Mr Gou reiterated that Hon Hai plans to bring revenue growth to 15% this year. In 2013, Hon Hai's revenue grew 1.3% to NT $3.95 trillion (about 799.6 billion yuan), below the 15% growth target. Mr Gou said Hon Hai's goal was to increase the company's annual revenue by more than one to NT $10 trillion (about 2.0142 trillion yuan) in the next 10 years by dabbling in E-commerce, 4G telecoms services, cloud computing and other High-tech innovations.
