One of the reasons for the death of a listed SOA is similar to morbid obesity. The planned growth of the sales SOA exceeds the scale of the process that executes the SOA. But, Boynton continues, SOA may not be dead, just like being in a "deep coma" state. In his view, SOA is a service-oriented approach, focusing on concrete actions and not general activities. In his words it is to make a bowl of soup instead of trying to boil the whole ocean.
And Boynton's view sparked a response from Progress software company designer David Bressler. He thought SOA was in a half-dead state, not as serious as Manes said, but more serious than Boynton.
The software architecture community is arguing about whether SOA is dead or not. Or more precisely, the "meta concept" of SOA is disappearing, lagging behind the actual architecture it is based on. Is SOA dead or just dormant?
The company produces an SOA platform called "Actional". The company is still boasting about its SOA legacy. Although the company has focused on SOA as a major business in recent years, the company found itself not promoting the benefits of SOA concepts, but selling the idea without it. A recently published White paper advises business users to assess their current IT infrastructure, listing the factors that might make them risk.
As Bressler wrote, his company found itself moving away from the "information" of SOA without sacrificing the basic content of SOA. He said that from the perspective of our actional department, the death of SOA is viewed from a market perspective (not from a technical standpoint!) It's been a while. We obviously don't focus on SOA information. SOA doesn't seem to be catching on, and the illusion of SOA is shattered. However, we are not the only SOA vendors, there are many competitors. One of our competitors has identified a number of hot topics and a flash animation to convince people that their SOA solutions are as good as cloud computing, software services, WEB 2.0, and composite applications.
' Our views are different, Bressler said. From our point of view, SOA information is limited. We are basically management/control services and anything built on a service basis, whether or not an SOA architecture is used. We believe that through advocacy around SOA, disillusioned institutions will spill babies with bath water. In fact, with actional software, companies can get a huge return on investment.
The message here is this: this question has nothing to do with the specific methods of thinking and working, but with the method of talking about it. This is a lesson that family manufacturers and politicians may offer: if a product doesn't sell well, change the product name and try again. The method works well for wagon, professional wrestling and former President Richard Nixon, but it has so far not worked for the service. In addition to ideas, concepts, technologies, protocols, software, sales planning, publishing support, advertising, seminars, and T-shirts, SOA is completely dead.
is a programming approach sure to be an idea that allows corporate boards to survive an economic crisis? Maybe, but what happens if the idea itself goes through a long time?
In the late 80 and early 90, when he was a part-time software developer, Fulton said that programming should not link data closely to the code that uses the data. At that time, not only did some people say he was against a method, but he also said he threatened the basic principles of business, and some even said he was against a way of life.
