IT Trends: Changes brought by Cloud and Big Data

If you've been to a Gartner meeting, you're sure to notice one very conspicuous thing about the fact that they're going to publish a ton of data on a wide range of IT topics at the conference. The same goes for the Gartner Symposium / ITxpo conference in Orlando, Fla., Last week. With about 9,000 executives attending the conference, the conference focused on technology trends that will bring about tremendous changes to the IT industry in the near future, including security, mobile computing, big data and cloud.

To list all of this data is fairly difficult, we can only try to simplify the presentation of these data by refining key presentations at Gartner ITxpro meetings and highlighting the most visible information.

Here are some of the data we extracted from the speeches of many of Gartner's analysts and the IT trends that they show.

IT trends

● Global IT spending in 2013 is expected to exceed 3.7 trillion U.S. dollars, up 3.8% from the projected 3.6 trillion U.S. dollars in 2012, but the biggest growth of big data is the most noticeable. Because by 2015, the world will add 4.4 million jobs related to big data, the United States will add 1.9 million IT jobs. Big data will create a new economic area where the entire task is to transform information or data into income. Big data is expected to generate 34 billion U.S. dollars in IT spending in 2013.

Most of the current recurrent IT spending is spent on various needs of big data using traditional solutions such as machine data, social data, a wide variety of data, unpredictable speed, etc. In 2012, only 4.3 billion in software spending is directly driven by the new big data capabilities.

● Currently, the most significant impact of big data is on social network analysis and content analysis, with up to 45% of new spending happening in this area each year.

● 12 years ago, spending on IT outside of the IT budget accounted for only 20% of total technology spending; by the end of this decade, IT spending outside of budget would account for almost 90% of total technology spending.

● The organization will set up a chief data officer corner to participate in business leadership. Gartner expects 25% of organizations to have CRO positions by 2015.

● Consumers' social networks that dominate the market over the next three years will hit the growing ceiling. However, social computing will become more and more important. Businesses will set up social media as a must. Gartner predicts that within the next three years, 10% of organizations spend more than $ 1 billion on social media.

Peter Sondergaard, Gartner's senior vice president and director of global research, argues that "social computing is moving from the edge of the organization to the very heart of business operations.
