Beijing time February 10 Evening news, according to foreign media reports, Ericsson and the Italian-French semiconductor joint venture company Italian-French Ericsson announced today to launch a Linux based system HSDPA platform U6715. The platform could help handset makers produce smartphones based on Android or other Linux systems at a wholesale price of less than € 100 (about $138). Italy-France Ericsson predicts that the first smartphone to use the platform will be available in early 2010. The company says U6715 can support all the necessary smartphone experiences, including navigation, web browsing, streaming video, email, WiFi, 5 million megapixel cameras and touch screens. The integrated multimedia engine in the platform will share the microprocessor's work and enable the microprocessor to better run mobile applications. Italian-French Ericsson said the U6715 platform could drastically reduce the cost of handset makers ' production of handsets, making smartphones a real mass-market product. (D-Gold)
