Panorama May 20 Japan's Nikkei stock index rose 0.4% in early Wednesday, brokerage stocks climbed, and Japan's GDP fell less than expected in the first quarter. Japan's first-quarter economy fell by a record 4% per cent year-on-year, largely because of a sharp contraction in exports, but the data was better than the 4.2% decline in market forecasts. The Nikkei index rose 40.17 points to 9330.46 in early trading. The index rose 2.78% in the previous day. The East Card stock index rose 0.4% to 883.06 in a half-day. (Panorama net/Wang Danjin)
