Jawbone launches new application

SAN FRANCISCO, July 17 morning news, smart wristband maker Jawbone this week introduced a diet tracking application. The company hopes the app will attract people who are concerned about health and weight.

To expand its share of the nascent wearable market, Jawbone Wednesday added a new feature to its main product Jawbone Up.

Jawbone spokesman Andrew Rosenthal said the service allows Jawbone Up users to record their diet and evaluate the health of the diet. The app also offers a restaurant menu listing and a food library to help users view food calories more easily before ordering. And if users have their own health and exercise goals, then this application can help them track progress.

In addition, Jawbone Up wristbands can track information such as walking steps and sleep duration.

Rosensell said: "At the moment we can document the amount of calories you consume and consume." The Jawbone system, however, aims to "incorporate all of this data."

Jawbone's competitors include Fitbit. According to Canalys, a market research firm, shipments of wearables worldwide were 2.7 million units in the first quarter of this year, with Fitbit in half. Many industry experts predict Apple will release iWatch, a smartwatch with health and motion tracking sensors.

It is reported that Jawbone received 2.5 billion U.S. dollars in venture capital in February this year. In April 2013, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer joined Jawbone's board of directors. (Zhang Fan)
