Kun Teng launches DXi series new products can be on-demand real-time expansion capacity

Recently, Quantum has introduced a new technology to deal with the need for data de-duplication, which does not require customers to increase the number of nodes to expand capacity or seek help from field engineers.

Quantum's DXi 4000 series Backup-to-disk system adds a new product named DXi 4601, which comes with all the disk features pre-installed.

But initially only the disk capacity required by the customer was started. According to the quantum statement, DXi 4601 initially started with a disk capacity of 4TB, and users can also increase their capacity to 8TB and the highest 12TB by activating the software license. This product is configured with 2TB of disk and RAID6 protection.

Quantum claims that this method of capacity expansion is better than the so-called web-based extension, which requires multiple nodes to be installed, and when users need to increase capacity, they need to increase the number of nodes.

"The basic problem is that those nodes are independent of each other, and the size and speed of the backup job can be limited by the performance and capacity of a single node," said Steve Whitner, quantum product marketing Manager in a blog post. In fact, each node must retain enough free space for the entire backup to be in the state of the data deduplication process. ”

Duplicate data deletion is only valid when a continuous backup job is performed on the same node, and data recovery must occur at the node at the time of the initial data de-duplication.

DXi 4601 uses a different approach, and the customer initially gets 4TB of storage capacity, which can then be extended as needed.

Whitner added: "In DXi 4601, instant expansion capacity has become part of a single duplicate data removal pool, with all data from all sources being de-duplicated. ”

Whitner said: "It also means that there is no duplication of installation and repeat wiring, there will be no interruption of service and service checks, in fact, there is no need to be equipped with on-site IT staff." ”

Quantum's DXi 4601 will be marketed this month, starting at $21500.
