On January 13, according to foreign media reports, the theme of the CES exhibition held last week at Las Vegas was the internet of things and the various smart devices that make up the networking of things. Every exhibitor can come up with some of the most intelligent novelty. But are these smart devices really smart? Large data and things on both sides of the network. The Internet of Things collects data from a variety of smart devices that need to be sorted, reorganized, and made reasonable decisions. The IoT then uses terminal smart devices to implement these decisions. This is true intelligence.

At present, with the rapid growth of intelligent devices, in the absence of application background and user groups, intelligent networking equipment faces four data problems, which hinders the development of intelligence. Although the data problems faced by smart networking devices are obvious, few people seem to want to really discuss these issues.

Problem One: The function is too single, no one will wear 50 kinds of equipment

At CES, the Harrison Weber on the VentureBeat website used 56 wearable devices. Today's Internet of things technology entrepreneurs have long been in the past learned the lessons of failure, that is, any product use must be simple. As a result, a device that can really do a good job has been successful. But in the future, when smart devices explode, it is clearly not realistic to measure sleep, feeding speed, or the health of the knee to separate devices.

No one wants to manage and wear 50 of smart devices like Harrison Weber. Or you look like a smart device salesman. Today's smart device startups are using a large number of single solutions to help simplify people's lives. To achieve easy-to-use goals, these companies are too focused on a single issue. The CES corridor is full of intelligent yoga mats, smart sunlight intensity sensors, intelligent epilepsy detectors, smart skis and other products, people become confused.

Problem two: Getting sensor data is not an end

Take the sunlight intensity sensor mentioned above. Do you really need a wrist to feel the current intensity of the sun? Whether you can use a smartphone to query the current intensity of light to determine if you should go out. Instead of going out and using some kind of smart device to measure the level of light regularly. The former is the real intelligence, reading sensor data is not a smart device, just means.

After the rise of intelligent networking equipment, a large number of related companies will fail. Only a handful of businesses survive. These survivors will be the ones who can find out more about the information behind the data, and thus make a pre-contract device. This means a lot of data mining capabilities.

Earlier versions of the Jawbone Wearable fitness equipment required the wearer to manually log on to their active content. The most recent version becomes a comparison between the active activity and the known activity pattern to guess the active content. This is the best example from simple data reading to real intelligence.

Problem three: Data cannot be shared

The rise of smart devices means the geometric growth of sensor data. Unless you are a large wearable manufacturer-such as Jawbone, Fitbit, Withings, etc.-you may not be able to collect enough user data to get a breakthrough in user life. This makes the big manufacturers have a strong first-hair advantage.

When wearable equipment manufacturers are inevitably integrated, the data collected by all failed companies will disappear. At present, there is little data sharing between wearable devices of different brands.

The biggest reason people don't want to switch from Apple to Android is the familiarity of operations and the data in itunes. Similarly, in the world of Internet of things, the exclusivity of data prevents users from switching between different devices. This is why every smart device provider tries to be a central node in our health, home, or finance.

As the CEO of Samsung said in his CES keynote speech, "People want to create a single operating system for the internet of things, but people with these ideas are currently focused on their products." ”

Problem four: Data mining is not easy

If data doesn't change your behavior, what's the use of collecting it? At CES there is an application called V1bes, claiming to be a "psychic application". It can measure stress levels and brain activity.

This application sounds useful. But knowing the level of stress, just collecting the image of the data, causes the stress level to be unknown. Perhaps the data can tell the user that the pressure level is too high, but it does not tell the user where the pressure to trigger chronic depression comes from.

Another company called narrative clip could do a lot better. The company's products take a photo every 30 seconds to record the user's life, using the company's unique algorithm to determine what needs to be analyzed further, a product that could allow users to find clues that trigger stress.

However, this time CES is clear that the smart networking device market in the near future will certainly explode. We are in a whirlpool of ideas, but many will be stillborn. These ideas are either too simplistic or can be of no help to our lives. Smart terminals, Internet of things, and big data on the web are the legs that underpin this market, and ignoring any one link cannot support an effective market. At present, the intelligent terminals and the Internet of things are becoming more and more mature both technically and practically, but the big data which plays the core role behind the intellectualization is ignored intentionally or unintentionally.
