As the most technologically advanced military in the world, the U.S. military is the world's first to develop, apply, develop http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/13568.html "> large data technology of the Army-

Big data challenges for U.S. forces

For the U.S. military, with the continued in-depth development of information technology, new weapons are emerging, various levels of "system integration" more and more complex, in processing information and data are also beginning to encounter various challenges:

First, massive battlefield data cannot be processed in a timely and efficient manner. The U.S. military has integrated the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, sensors and other reconnaissance methods, with the data volume increased significantly, relying solely on existing information technology, the U.S. military has been unable to timely and efficient analysis and processing of these data.

Second, the high data barriers hinder data fusion. The U.S. military believes that the impact of data fusion barriers are mainly: in the system, the relevant departments are often their own camps, there are repeated development, standards and other issues, for their own interests, may be exclusive information, can not be shared.

Finally, the database vulnerabilities increase, information security hidden dangers. With the explosive growth of data volume, there are more and more database vulnerabilities, and the target of attack will increase. On the other hand, the attacks hidden in the mass data are often difficult to find in time, the leakage of core data will have a fatal impact on the whole situation.

Research and development of U.S. military large data program

At present, there are 6 government departments and agencies in the United States to promote the Obama "big Data Research and Development initiative" undertook the task. The U.S. Department of Defense and its Defense Advanced Research Program Bureau responsible for a total of 10 large data items.

Among these projects, the most representative projects are data to decision-making, network internal threats, image retrieval and analysis.

Data to the decision project. The main content of the project is: first, through a variety of new ways to make full use of massive data, integration of awareness, cognition and decision-making system to create a truly autonomous system, so that it can operate autonomously and make decisions; second, raise situational awareness levels to assist combatants and analysts, and provide better protection for operations.

Network internal threat project. The purpose of the project is to improve the accuracy, frequency and speed of the detection network spying by using the new network threat judgment technology, so as to expose and guard against the enemy's destructive activities early, and to improve the network security level of our own.

Image retrieval and Analysis project. Once the project is successful, the analyst will be able to quickly and accurately retrieve the specific video content from the massive video library, thus can fully and efficiently excavate the hidden useful information in the image.

How to promote the development of large data projects

In addition to the introduction of large data research and development policy documents, the United States has introduced a series of concrete measures to promote the application of large data in the military field.

First, invest more in money. The White House Office of Science and Technology policy has set up a "large data senior Steering Group" to coordinate and promote government input in this critical area. In addition to its mandate in the Big Data Research Initiative, the Department of Defense will spend about 250 million dollars a year on large data research and development in the military sector, including 60 million dollars for new research projects, through a series of projects.

Second, to make extensive use of social resources. The Ministry of Defense has signed large data contracts with a number of prestigious universities and large enterprises in order to make full use of the talent resources of prestigious universities and the technological advantages of large enterprises, and improve the efficiency of research and development. In 2011, for example, the Ministry of Defense Advanced Research Program signed a 2.7 million-dollar technology development contract with Georgia Polytechnic to help address the technical challenges of large data.

In addition, in order to promote innovation in the field of large data, the U.S. Department of Defense will hold a series of public Grand Prix to enhance the enthusiasm and initiative of scientific and technological personnel.
