Large data, cloud computing and mobile strategies to help enterprises win network security

More than 80% of security executives believe that the external threats facing companies are growing, with nearly 60% of security executives finding it difficult to survive cyber-security battles, according to a recent IBM survey. The research report concludes that technology is the key to addressing security issues and threats, and that current companies should focus on technologies such as large data, cloud computing and mobility.

The IBM Application Insight Center completed the third IBM annual Chief Information Security Officer (CISOS) survey through in-depth interviews with nearly 140 enterprise senior security executives. The results show that 40% of security executives see complex external threats as the primary challenges facing businesses. In addition, nearly 15% of executives mentioned the issue of corporate governance as the second biggest challenge. If corporate leaders continue to emphasize business priorities, then in the next 3-5 years, companies will have to devote a lot of effort to address external threats, and the input will be equal to the enterprise to solve the regulatory problems, new technology development and internal threats to the sum of investment.

Network security strategy needs to be reconsidered

The purpose of this research is to reveal and understand the current means by which enterprises defend against cyber attacks. The results showed that 70% of security executives believed that sophisticated traditional technologies would effectively implement network intrusion prevention, advanced malware detection, and network vulnerability scans.

However, nearly 50% of executives think that deploying new security technologies is the immediate priority for companies, and they list data disclosure defenses, cloud security, and device safety as the three most needed areas for transformation. In addition, the IBM CISOs research results also include:

· Cloud security continues to be a hot topic: While the market remains sceptical about the security of the cloud, 90% per cent of respondents have said they are using cloud services or planning a cloud solution. In addition, 75% of these companies are expected to raise or significantly increase their cloud security budgets over the next 3-5 years.

· Data-driven security intelligence is a high-profile feature: More than 70% of security executives say real-time security intelligence is becoming increasingly important for their businesses. Although the proportion of this view is larger, the results indicate that the maturity of data classification and discovery, and security intelligence analysis is still relatively low (54%), which needs to be improved or transformed.

· There are still a lot of vulnerabilities in mobile security: Although the number of employees using mobile technology is growing, only 45% of security executives say they employ efficient methods of mobile device management. In fact, mobile and device safety is at the bottom of the list of technologies that are currently well established (51%).

With the changes in the form of cyber attacks and government regulations over the past three decades, most companies have redefined their own security map, so the impact of security executives in the enterprise is becoming more apparent. According to the results of this survey, 90% of safety executives are very much in agreement with their significant role in the enterprise, 76% of whom say their influence has been significantly improved over the past three years. In addition, 71% of respondents said they received strong support from the company in their work.
