Xinhua Paris July 20 (reporter Li Xummei) French minister of Higher Education and research Valerie Pecresse 20th announced that France will invest 16 million euros to promote the digital construction of universities. Pecresse said at a news conference that the Government would use 10 million euros to install wireless internet facilities for universities by the end of the year, so that students could have free high-speed Internet access in any corner of the campus. The remaining 6 million euros will be used to buy web-based teaching equipment, which will be allocated by the Government according to the size of the teaching body and the number of students. Pecresse explained that the development of web-based teaching is not to replace the traditional face-to-face lectures, but to make a useful supplement to help students adjust their learning progress reasonably. This approach is particularly suited to the needs of handicapped and in-service students. According to the Ministry of Higher Education and research, about 2% of the university students in France are taught online, and the government plans to raise the percentage to 10% within a year. In addition, some 2000 teachers are currently receiving advanced digital teaching training.
