Lazeeeye: Mobile 3D Scanner

With a wide variety of gadgets on the market offering more and more innovative features for smartphones, Lazeeeye is one of the newest offerings that can bring laser 3D mapping capabilities to your smartphone.

Lazeeeye needs to work with a connected smartphone to use the latter for 3D operations. It also comes with a stereo vision application to visualize the captured 3D scene. The ultimate goal of Lazeeeye is to bring a new era of 3D image applications and services, with the help of this accessory, you will be able to see a sofa in your living room, or look at a picture from different angles.

Lazeeeye is just a concept, its current prototype looks very shabby, but it has a very interesting idea. If developers can improve and shrink the hardware of the device, optimize the software and algorithms, and maintain the current price commitment, they can actually bring the mapping technology to more users-assuming they can raise the required start-up funds on Kickstarter.

The features of this accessory are easy to link with Google's recently released Project Tango. But even if Google does end up with a 3D-sensor device in the market, consumers will have to buy the new device to experience Google's 3D mapping function. As a small accessory, lazeeeye can bring similar ability for the current mobile phone of consumer.

Lazeeeye is currently divided into a variety of versions, including 50-dollar DIY kits (user-assembled), 75-dollar assembly version, and 125/150-dollar Advanced edition (with different laser nano-wavelengths). The amount of fund-raising for the project is 250,000 dollars, and if the original target is met, the equipment will be shipped to supporters in June.
