Following the launch in December 2012 of the world's first 64-bit system chip for micro-servers, low-end storage and network equipment, the S1200 processor, Intel has its outstanding energy efficiency performance (thermal design power consumption of 6 watts), and its current industry-specific 64-bit, Support for data center-level technical features such as ECC and virtualization, and is widely recognized in related emerging applications. On the basis of this, Intel is planning to release the second generation of the Avoton system chip (code-named "D") for the above application areas in the second half of this year. Reliable NEWS: The processor has not been officially released, has been scheduled by HP, will be used in its next generation of Moonshot server, and the current Ling S1200 processor has been selected by HP, used in this "super Energy" (Ultra Energy-efficient) Server product line.

At the 2013 Intel Information Technology Summit held in Beijing on April 10, Beanna Diane Bryant, senior vice president of Intel Corporation and general manager of the data center and interconnected Systems Division, said: " The system chip based on the S1200 system is suitable for the environment and software application of Intel architecture, and can reduce power consumption to meet the requirements of enterprise software application. Designed for target-oriented, lightweight, web-scale workloads, including low-end dedicated hosting, simple content delivery, and off-line batch analysis, this system has been chosen as the ideal system chip solution for the micro-server market. ”

Beanna also first demonstrated Intel's second generation of 64-bit GPS chips for micro-server development at the Intel Information Technology Summit in Beijing Avoton: "Avoton will be based on Intel 22 NM process technology, with a new microarchitecture code-named ' Silvermont '." By consolidating new capabilities, new Microarchitecture, and leading manufacturing technology, it integrates the Ethernet controller and will further enhance the performance and energy efficiency of each tile on the basis of the Intel S1200 processor. Avoton is currently in the process of providing samples for its evaluation, and the first Avoton based system is expected to be launched in the second half of 2013. ”

Although Avoton has not yet officially gone to the world, it has become the focus of the micro-server market without any hesitation--all vendors who plan to enter or further expand the micro-server market are watching its progress. "HP will use this system chip to equip its next-generation moonshot server," Raejeanne Skillern, director of cloud computing marketing at Intel's data center and interconnected Systems Division, said on the Intel data stack blog. And its just launched the first moonshot server, has adopted the Intel Ling S1200 processor.
