Recent news has said that Lenovo Group will start layoffs in September, the proportion of 10%~15%, mainly in the PC business unit. In response, Lenovo officials said the rumors are untrue, Lenovo is moving to the mobile sector, and business development, there is more adequate personnel needs.

Earnings showed that Lenovo group revenue reached 8.8 billion U.S. dollars in the second quarter of 2013, an increase of 10% year-on-year, net profit of 174 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 23%.

In the quarter, Lenovo Group global PC shipments amounted to 12.6 million units, has been for 17 consecutive quarters than the overall industry growth. Lenovo, meanwhile, jumped to the top of the global PC market in the second quarter, surpassing HP by 16.7% per cent of global market share.

But the global decline in the PC industry is an indisputable fact. Global PC shipments fell about 11% per cent year-on-year in the second quarter of this year, according to Gartner, the fifth consecutive quarterly drop in the global PC market.

Lenovo Group chairman and CEO Yang said that Lenovo will still adhere to the "Defend + attack" strategy, in the PC area to protect the existing market share advantages, and to the Intelligent mobile field of infiltration. But it also means that Lenovo's demand for profit margins will be tighter. At present, Lenovo Group mobile phone business has just achieved break-even, and with the global PC market decline trend, Lenovo Group to hold the market share also have to carry out channel sinking.

From the financial performance of Lenovo Group, Lenovo Group Americas revenue growth of 29% year-on-year, Europe/Middle East/Africa region revenue growth of 18% Year-on-year, China's regional revenue growth of 5.6%. But in the Asia-Pacific region outside China, such as India, where competition for low prices is fierce, Lenovo's sales in the region fell 8.1% year-on-year.
