NetEase technology News November 15, according to foreign media reports, market research company Gartner published data today, according to the third quarter of this year's smartphone shipments ranked, Lenovo has become the world's third largest smartphone manufacturer, beyond the South Korean LG Electronics. Earlier this year, Lenovo overtook HP as the world's largest PC maker. Lenovo's smartphone shipments amounted to 12.9 million in the third quarter of this year, up 84.5% from a year earlier, to 5.1% in the global smartphone market, and 4.1% in the same period last year. In the global mobile phone market, Lenovo's ranking also rose to 7th place. Earlier this month, Lenovo reported a net profit of $219.7 million trillion in the second quarter ending September, up 36% from $162 million a year earlier. The company's growth comes mainly from its huge advantage in mainland China, the world's largest smartphone market. But competition is also fierce in mainland China, with some of the world's most high-profile handset makers competing for consumers in a variety of ways. "Lenovo will continue to rely heavily on the mainland market, which accounts for more than 95% of its total handset sales," said Anshul Gupta, chief research analyst at Gartner, Ansur. That could limit growth since 2014, when growth in China's mainland market is expected to slow. "Although Lenovo sells smart-phone high school prices at all levels, its average selling price is slightly lower overall." In mainland China, the introduction of smart phones, such as Millet and Yulong (Yulong), is priced at less than half of Apple's iphone and Samsung Galaxy handsets, and is being courted by consumers. According to Canalys, a market research firm, Lenovo ranked second in the Chinese mainland market for smartphone shipments in the third quarter by 13% per cent, behind Samsung, which occupies 21% of the market. Gartner also said that in the third quarter, Samsung's share of the global smartphone market remained unchanged, but the dominance of Apple was expanded, benefiting mainly from the company's launch of its latest big screen smartphone Galaxy Note 3. Gartner said that in the third quarter of this year, Samsung smartphone shipments of 80.4 million, in the global smartphone market share of 32.1%, Apple sold 30.3 million smartphones, but its market share from the same period last year 14.3% down to 12.1%. "While the launch of the new iphone 5S and 5C has had a positive impact on Apple's overall smartphone sales, it could be more positive if they don't start shipping later in the quarter," says Gupta. While we see some inventory of the iphone 5C, the market has a strong demand for the iphone 5S, which has been sold in many markets. LG last month launched the first curved screen smartphone G Flex, which sold 121 in the third quarter0 smartphones, whose share of the global smartphone market rose to 4.8% from 4.1% in the same period last year.
