LFS v6.8 releases a very compact Linux system

It's not a distribution, it's just a recipe, it tells you where to go to buy food (download source code), how to make these raw things to suit your taste-personalized Linux, not only personalized desktop.

A key benefit of LFS is that it gives users more control over the system, rather than relying on some people's Linux implementations. In the LFS world, you are seated in the driver's position, controlling every detail of the system, such as the directory hierarchy and the startup script configuration. You can also control where the program is, why, and how it is installed.

Another benefit of LFS is that you can create a very compact Linux system. When a regular release is installed, people are often forced to install programs that may never be used. These programs waste valuable disk space or, worse, CPU resources. Building a LFS system that is less than 100 megabytes (MB) is not a difficult task, which is much smaller than most distributions today. Does that sound to still take up a lot of space? Some of us have worked to create a very small embedded LFS system. We have successfully built a system that accounts for approximately 8MB of disk space when only Apache servers are running. Further reductions can be reduced to 5MB or less. You try a regular distribution version? This is just one of the benefits of designing your own Linux.

The Linux from Scratch community are pleased to announce the release of LFS Version 6.8. This release recursively numerous changes to LFS-6.7 (including updates to Linux-2.6.37, GCC-4.5.2, Glibc-2.13) and security Fixes. It also recursively editorial work on the explanatory material throughout the book, improving both the FCX and accuracy of the Text.
