May 5 News, a New York makespace start-up company launched a new storage services, it believes that storage services should work like Dropbox.

Sam Rosen, chief executive of MakeSpace, says the company provides better storage services than traditional self-service storage services. MakeSpace will provide customers with a lot of storage boxes, so that customers will be packaged things in the inside, received a customer notice, the company will come back to take the storage box and take a bird's eye view, for all the goods in the repository to create a picture file. When the customer wants to retrieve the goods, MakeSpace will deliver the goods to the customer's doorstep within 48 hours.

MakeSpace's services are already quite attractive compared to self-service storage providers like the Manhattan Mini Storage Service (Manhattan mini-storage), but they want to do better to further improve the user experience and add new features. MakeSpace's inspiration comes from Dropbox and Uber.

The annual income of the self-help storage industry is about 24 billion dollars. Now, one-tenth of Americans have a locker, and there are nearly 50,000 storage centers across the United States. This is the fastest growing area in the commercial real estate industry in the past 40 years, says Self Storage Association.

MakeSpace is not the only start-up in the field, and another start-up, named Boxbee, is doing almost the same thing. Boxbee was awarded the launch Festival of the start-up competition held in March 2013.

MakeSpace is developing an iphone app that allows customers to track the delivery trucks in real time, just as they are with Uber or Lyft drivers.

Clients can also use the app to take pictures and put photos in storage files so they know where to put them, Rosen said.

Since its inception last September, the company's revenue growth rate has reached three figures a month, Rosen said. In April this year, MakeSpace received more new customers than the company had since its inception by the end of March. Rosen declined to disclose the company's specific revenue figures, but said the company already has thousands of customers.

Moreover, it is not difficult to make customer satisfaction.

"We are very different from traditional electric companies," Rosen said. For us, the transaction flow rate is much slower than FreshDirect or Uber. ”

MakeSpace has aroused the interest of several famous VC companies. MakeSpace announced today that it has just completed a round of $8 million trillion in financing, including upfront ventures, Founders Fund, OATV and so on.

MakeSpace currently offers only delivery services in New York, and the next step is to extend the service to other cities on the east coast, such as Washington, D.C., Boston and Philadelphia. MakeSpace's "MakeSpace Air" service is already covered throughout the United States, but the service requires customers to deliver the goods to MakeSpace via UPS (combined parcel Service).

"When we build huge storage centers between cities, we look more like Amazon than real estate providers," Rosen said. ”

MakeSpace A 2.1 million dollar investment before the seed-wheel financing. The company currently employs 20 employees and plans to recruit 15 more employees by the end of the year.
