According to foreign media reports, market research company IDC local time published a report in Monday predicted that by 2015, the number of Internet users through mobile devices will be more than through the desktop PC and other fixed devices online Internet users.
One of the underpinnings of IDC's bold forecasts is the rapid growth in smartphone sales over the past two years. IDC predicts 2015 global smartphone shipments will be close to 1 billion. IDC also expects sales of Tablet PCs to explode in the coming years. IDC predicts that U.S. wireless equipment sales will grow by 16.6% a year between 2010 and 2015.
IDC says the popularity of smartphones and tablets is rising rapidly, and desktop computer users will first stall and then slow down. Western Europe and Japan will follow the trend in the United States.
IDC reported that the number of global Internet users (including wired and wireless) would grow from 2 billion in 2010 to 2.7 billion in 2015, while the Internet advertising market would grow from 70 billion to $138 billion in the same period, and the share of the advertising market would grow from nearly 12% to nearly 18%.
