Gizmag, a scholar at the University of Hanover (University of Hanover) in Germany, is studying the use of car GPS and wiper speed monitoring sensors to measure rainfall in order to monitor real-time rainfall data in various places, December 2, according to the report. The project is called "Raincars".
The idea of measuring rainfall with the speed of the wipers was originally proposed because when it rained, the driver first thought of turning on the windshield wipers, and found that the speed of the wipers was related to the amount of water on the windows. However, due to the speed of the car, wind speed, as well as the driver's personal habits have different variables such as factors, resulting in the windshield wiper sensors to measure the real rainfall is not easy.
Although it is not very accurate to measure precipitation with wipers, researchers at the University of Hannover believe that the Raincars project is still more accurate than the current measurement of the best rain-measuring device. The experiment is still being conducted locally.
