Mesosphere, a start-up that manages all the data centers and cloud resources and has managed a large computer in the data center, has just received 36 million dollars in funding, and has released the world's first data center operating system.
Mesosphere was founded by former Twitter and Airbnb engineers who used the experience of building data centers in their former employers and the open source tools used to develop a management system of data center resources, Apache Mesos, which integrates all resources into a large resource pool, Manage data centers as a large computer. Mesos can be used to automate the efficient deployment of data centers across servers (resource allocation and recycling), while Mesosphere is designed to accelerate the spread of Apache Mesos. Half a year ago the start-up had just won a 10.5 million dollar a round of funding for the a16z.
The DCOs management interface, which shows memory usage, shows the command line that controls the operating system
Over the past six months, the company has also absorbed a variety of open-source tools on the basis of its original tools, developing a set of basic tools to create the industry's first operating system for data centers. The system is named Mesosphere Data Center keyboard-based System (DCOS), the core services of the system include distributed initialization System Marathon, distributed cron (Periodic command) Chronos, service discovery DNS, HDFs storage, which supports the deployment of distributed technologies such as Hadoop file systems, Cassandra and Accumulo databases, and kubernetes container management tools, with a graphical management interface, The CPU and memory utilization in the same mesosphere cluster can be tracked, and can be used by tools such as Chaos Monkey to ensure that applications remain operational when several machines are interrupted. DCOs can run either in the Enterprise data center or in the cloud or across server environments. Supported environments include various versions of Linux, such as Redhat, CentOS, Ubuntu, and CoreOS, as well as cloud services such as Amazon, Google, Digitalocean, Microsoft, Rackspace, and VMware. The system will be launched next year.
Since Mesosphere's technology involves both the cloud and the operating system, these two providers may also become rivals. For example, the giant VMware of virtualization technology and OpenStack distributors of open source cloud framework may develop similar products.
This round of financing by Khosla Ventures, a16z, Fuel Capital and other investment, after the round of its total financing has reached 48.85 million U.S. dollars. The funds will be used to strengthen research and development and expand staff, with about 40 mesosphere existing staff and plans to increase to 120 by the end of 2015.
