Microsoft announced today that the online only one-week-long ipad version of Office applications (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint three standalone applications) has exceeded 12 million downloads. But the number also includes an ipad version of OneNote that was released a few years ago. Microsoft did not give a breakdown of the figures.
Because of the ipad version of Office's free strategy (which requires only 99 dollars per year for editorial functions), and Microsoft's massive rollout, three standalone apps soon ranked first in the App Store free list. At the same time, Microsoft has further accelerated the promotion of the ipad version of Office by opening it free to subscribers to Office 365.
