Microsoft Cloud Computing Data Center expansion and capacity planning

We are delighted to see a lot of people sign up for Windows Azure every week and existing customers continue to increase their usage. In view of the needs of new and old customers, we will continue to add computing power to existing data centers and extend our footprint around the world.

We keep an eye on our data center capacity trends to anticipate the capacity requirements of existing customers. To ensure that customers can increase the amount of usage they have deployed in the data center, the data Center sets a threshold for new customers to delete options. Today, we set the calculation and storage service as an option for new customers in the south-central U.S. region. Existing customers deployed to the south-Central Regional data center will not be affected. South-Central SQL Azure, Service Bus, Caching, and Access control are still available to new customers.

As announced in the recent blog, the two new datacenter options ("Western USA" and "Eastern United States") are now available to Windows Azure customers. Today we will announce the availability of SQL Azure in the "Eastern United States" and "Western USA" areas to complement existing computing and storage services.
