Microsoft finally launches IPhone Office suite

After months of rumors and speculation, Microsoft finally launched the IPhone Office suite. Office Mobile for IOS is currently available only on the IPhone, and users will need to subscribe to Office 365 to access these Office apps ...

We first discovered Microsoft's office for IOS program last November, and it is said that these Office applications have only the most basic viewing capabilities. Clearly, Microsoft is now changing their plans to log on to your Office 365 account on the IPhone to view and edit the document.

No free version, no support for IPad

Office Mobile for IOS consists primarily of four parts: access to Recent documents, SkyDrive folders, creating new documents, settings. It is similar to Windows Phone edition of Office and supports Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. You are free to create new Word and Excel documents, but you do not support the creation of PowerPoint presentations. It can simply load up a Word document for you, and you can quickly jump to edit options directly in the viewing interface. However, some of its editing is a bit tangled, such as the author initially tried to use familiar IOS operations to highlight some text, but did not succeed, and finally found that the user must point to two of these words to perform classic highlighting control.

In fact, it's not hard to find out that its editing options are much better than Windows Phone version of Office. You can quickly undo previous modifications and see them updated on the document in real time. In Windows Phone Edition, undoing changes is a hassle because this editing option is displayed on a separate option. In addition to the initial tangle, users can skillfully change their documents on the iphone and see these changes on the Office Web Apps or desktop version of Office.

Excel's editing options are similar to Word's, but there are special options for spreadsheet data. If the editor of Word is a bit of a struggle, Excel is no better. It's also disappointing when you start highlighting cells, until you realize that you have to be in a very central position to do the highlighting and then drag and drop to another cell. Once you've highlighted the relevant data, making it into tables and graphs is easy, and you can simply insert a separate label into the spreadsheet. You can also use some basic filters, an automatic sum calculation and column sorting data. You can even modify a formula in a cell, which is good for the user to modify some of the errors that are suddenly discovered.

PowerPoint is the third most basic application of the IPhone version of Office. You can edit text, hide, and move slides, but there are fewer other customization options. A Slide Navigator view allows you to quickly navigate to the document description, while also supporting horizontal screen operations and creating speaker notes. Because you can't create PowerPoint documents on your phone, you're actually prepared for quick editing on your phone.

It can be said that the IPhone version of Office is largely designed to match SkyDrive. Because all document changes are synchronized to Microsoft's cloud service, most of these documents come from your office Web Apps and Desktop Office 2013. When you load the application for the first time, you will be able to see some options for purchasing Office 365 subscriptions, or log in with an account, but you can increase the 20GB SkyDrive storage space by using the purchase of Office 365 subscriptions. For Microsoft, one thing that makes them "uncomfortable" is that if users buy subscriptions directly from the Office for IPhone, Apple will charge a portion of Office 365 subscription fees. Microsoft has not disclosed how much tax they are going to pay Apple, but it should be as high as 30% of subscription fees, as with other applications.

On the whole, the Office for IPhone feature is relatively basic and is intended for users to edit documents while moving. Microsoft says it has no plans to launch an IPAD version at the moment, pointing out that tablet users can use the Office Web Apps directly on the Internet. However, we still hope that Microsoft can add more editing options, including more text formatting options and support for inserting and changing pictures, which are helpful for document modifications in emergency situations. The Office for IPhone is currently available only to U.S. users, but will be available in the next few days for each market.
