Beijing time October 25 morning news, according to foreign media reports, last Friday is Microsoft to allow OEMs to install the Windows XP operating system on the new PC last day. Since 2008, Microsoft has stopped providing Windows XP to almost all systems, extending only the deadline for ultra-low-priced PCs to use the system. In September 2007, Microsoft said in a press release: "Given that some systems in emerging markets are not yet satisfied with the minimum requirements for running Windows Vista, we will extend the deadline for delivery of Windows XP Starter Edition until June 30, 2010." This will allow our OEM partners to gain more opportunities to sell genuine Windows systems in these markets. "But the June 30 deadline is not immutable, but a rough estimate of the new version of Windows publishing time." As Windows 7 was released on October 22, 2009, Microsoft decided to stop providing Windows XP to OEM vendors after a year. But the puzzle is that while consumers may no longer be able to purchase Windows XP-pre-installed PCs, they have the option of demoting any system to XP, with no time available. Users need to call Microsoft when they activate Windows XP, and a customer service person will help users "activate" XP using Windows Vista or Windows 7 activation code. It's not yet known how long Microsoft's service will last. However, it is expected that all versions of Windows that are allowed to downgrade to XP will stop supplying OEM manufacturers and retailers in 2015. By then, Microsoft will officially end its support for the 14-year-long operating system. That does not mean, of course, that Microsoft has to support different versions of an operating system. Microsoft has stopped supporting Windows XP SP2 this July, and Microsoft plans to stop supporting it in April 2014, even if the user upgrades to the latest SP3. (Yan Fei)
