Microsoft unveiled its next-generation Office 2010 Desktop Edition at the Global Partner Conference, and announced that it will launch a free Office web version of Office web-based apps, the first free version of Microsoft's Office-series software, the news said yesterday. Microsoft says the Office Web version will be published as a copy of Office 2010 in the first half of next year, and users will be able to download Office 2010 for installation at the Windows Live site for free.  It is understood that Microsoft's free network version of Office will be in late summer as a component of Windows Live technology testing, users can only have a Windows Live account to try. Microsoft has now released the simple features of Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, and Word in the Office Web version, and Microsoft says the Office Web version will not only be available on Windows operating systems,  It will be available for installation on all existing operating platforms. Analysts believe that providing a "free lunch" such as office Web apps will affect Microsoft's highest-selling and most profitable business unit's revenue.  Currently, the most popular Office Home Edition sells at $150 trillion, which includes 4 software that Microsoft is about to offer free. The Office Web Apps is the latest move by Microsoft to compete with Google as the first free Office product, industry insiders say. Last week, Google announced the launch of its free operating system, Chrome OS, challenging Microsoft's Windows operating system's dominance.  The person expects Microsoft to overtake Google in the field as hundreds of millions of of users using Office products scramble to try out their online versions. Jon Ford, author of Fortune magazine, writes that Microsoft's online freeware software is not a blunder, but more like a sales fortt.
