Microsoft announced in Thursday that it had won a government contract to expand its data center services and the network version of Office software packages to the Chinese market.
According to the deal announced today by Microsoft, the company will work with the century Internet (nasdaq:vnet) to sell Office 365 and Windows Azure Managed services kits to Chinese companies. The agreement was drawn up jointly by Microsoft and the Shanghai municipal government.
Like many big technology companies, Microsoft wants to sell more services to Chinese companies and government agencies, as the Chinese economy continues to expand. Chinese companies will be able to purchase Office 365 and Windows Azure through the World Interconnection Program in Shanghai, and Microsoft will manage these services through data centres in Singapore and Hong Kong, China.
