Beijing time October 5 Morning news, according to foreign media today, Microsoft will certainly integrate office Web apps into the company's business productivity Online Standard Suite (hereinafter referred to as "BPOs") cloud computing services, But the company has yet to disclose a specific timetable. With these applications, BPOS will continue to pursue other competitors. For example, the Google Apps cloud computing collaboration and communications suite has previously created Office applications as the default. Betsy Webb, general manager of Microsoft's network services, said in a media interview: "We've certainly had a lot of discussion about Besse Weber the office Web apps as part of the BPOs." The Office Web Apps provides a cloud-computing version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, and features some of the localized office suite. Office Web Apps is called "Online Companion" in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, allowing users to "access, view, and edit" documents through the browser. Currently, Office Web apps has been introduced free of charge to individual users as part of the Windows Live online service and has been made available to academic institutions as part of a free live@edu collaboration and communication suite. Office Web Apps currently has about 20 million end users. Organizations with localized versions of Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 can also access the product. But Mr Weber said BPOs's penetration was not affected by the lack of office Web apps. BPOs includes features such as Exchange Online, Office SharePoint online, and Microsoft Office Live meeting. Mr Webb said BPOs's user seat had turned 3 times times since the beginning of 2010, but he declined to disclose BPOs's total number of seats. As part of BPOs, she says, Microsoft's online service has a 40 million per-fee seat. Microsoft said in Monday that BPOs had just attracted several major customers, including Volvo (18,000 end users), DuPont (58,000 end users), Spotless Group, Sunoco and Godiva. Michael Osterman, Michael Ostermann Research analyst at Osterman, a US market researcher, believes that Microsoft's BPOs penetration has gained momentum but is far from successful. He said: "Microsoft BPOs did notIt's always good. It is clear that it has gained the favor of many users and has built up a good growth momentum in business (including government) and education markets. "But Osterman added:" Despite this, Google apps still in the siege, LotusLive also performed well, and Cisco WebEx Mail launched when it is expected to get good development. Osterman said that delivering communication and collaboration tools in the form of software as a service (SaaS) is an "untapped opportunity", so there will be strong growth in penetration over the next few years, although most product deployments will still be localized. Rebecca Wettemann, Ribecca Wittmann research analyst at Nucleus, a US market researcher, believes that one of Microsoft's big strengths is that its software interfaces and tools are already familiar to users, and there is a link between its cloud computing software and its localized software. "I expect companies that want to get more cost-effective collaborative environments to think more about Microsoft, because of the experience that Microsoft offers when it comes to corporate collaboration," she said. U.S. market research firm Gartner says Microsoft's sales staff are aggressively promoting bpos as part of a renewal of corporate contracts. Matthew Cain, a Gartner analyst, said: "Microsoft is leveraging BPOs to get a lot of cloud service requirements." "The downside of BPOs is that the product still uses the 2007 version of the product portfolio," Mr Cayne said. He expects Microsoft to upgrade its products to version 2010 in early 2011. Microsoft also announced that Live@edu has added a number of clients, including the California State University system, Montana University, Northern Kentucky University, DuPage College (Eton of DuPage), Washington University Saint Louis and the University of Dayton, UK. More than 10,000 academic institutions now have 11 million end users using Live@edu, which includes components such as Office Web Apps, Windows Live SkyDrive, and Outlook Live. (PEI)
