Microsoft to launch OneDrive cloud storage service to Enterprise

Microsoft just renamed SkyDrive as OneDrive a week ago and provided some free storage space for users. OneDrive has been bundled with Office 365 and SharePoint Online, adding value to these core suite of applications. But Microsoft's latest plan will also provide a separate OneDrive billing service and will apply bindings to Office Online pages.

Julie White, Microsoft Office general manager, said in an official blog that from April to September, Microsoft would charge a monthly fee of $2.50 per month for users who used OneDrive for business alone, at a discount of 50%. For enterprise users who have signed the software Advantage and Office 365 propplus Agreement, this price is only $1.50 per month for each person. As part of this program, each employee will be given 25GB of OneDrive online storage space.

The latest announcement is one of the many plans that Microsoft has deployed to change and improve Office 365 and other cloud computing services.

The move suggests that Microsoft is likely to reconsider its traditional pricing model. Last week, people close to the situation said Microsoft was testing a free version of Windows operating system that could generate revenue from bundled services instead of relying solely on operating system licensing fees. Other new features include advanced auditing and reporting capabilities, free encryption, data loss protection, extensibility improvements, elevated storage limits, and more. Industry insiders point out that Microsoft plans to closely link the functions of its sections, and Wright is committed to delivering "deeper 365 experience across office" in the coming year.
