Julie Larson-green, the head of Microsoft's equipment business, Zhu Li Green at the UBS Global Technology conference that Microsoft will unify the current operating system. Microsoft's operating system is currently on the PC and laptop side for Windows 8/8.1, on the tablet side for Windows RT, on the smartphone side for Windows Phone. Green says Microsoft plans to merge all of its operating systems into a single operating system.
Microsoft executives ' stance suggests that Microsoft will replace the three operating systems developed for computers, tablets and smartphones with a unified new operating system. At present, the limitation of these three systems is quite obvious. Windows 8/8.1 and Windows RT platforms cannot run native Windows Phone applications.
Before that, there were executives who expressed their willingness to integrate the operating system. Terry Myerson, the head of Windows department, earlier said the company plans to merge the two application stores, Windows Store and Windows Phone store Trie Melsen. The future of windows, he says, lies in smartphones, suggesting that Windows RT systems will be removed.
Microsoft then started the registration integration process for Windows Phone and Windows system developers. The merger of Windows Store and the Windows Phone store will be largely completed by the end of 2014, according to analysts. For Microsoft, this will be an important step in the rollout of a unified cross-platform operating system.
Windows RT is in a different situation than Windows Phone and Windows8. Microsoft has suffered a loss on this system since the day Windows RT was launched. Windows RT has already caused Microsoft a 900 million dollar book loss, which may also be one of the reasons for Mr Ballmer's departure.
We can think of Windows RT as a simple version of the Windows system that is designed to match low-power arm processors. Because ARM chips are different from Intel and AMD chips, most applications designed for Windows devices cannot run on Windows RT systems.
A few years ago, when the ipad dominated the tablet market, the introduction of the Windows RT system seemed plausible. Unfortunately, Windows RT is listed as dead. Intel has significantly reduced the power consumption of the Atom chip, which has enabled the full version of the Windows system to run on Low-power tablets.
In the case of similar prices, consumers and manufacturers will choose to vote with their feet, the fate of Windows RT can be imagined. So, whether or not Microsoft will officially terminate Windows RT, the results are obvious.
Simply ending the Windows RT system does not enhance Microsoft's competitive power. There are many things Microsoft needs to do to challenge Apple and Google. For example, Microsoft can use the Apple itunes App Store model to provide cross-platform applications that support both tablets and smartphones. Microsoft can also display related applications based on the type of access device.
