Today, Microsoft is announcing a new stack of releases that are heading towards our cloud operating system vision. You can read more about the overall announcement here, but I will focus on some new/improved application lifecycle management scenarios that support our DEVOPS initiative.

Cloud computing still drives new requirements for application development. It enables new ways to conceive, build, and deliver a powerful application experience. This is accomplished by enabling fast cycle times, ideas → deliverables → feedback. To truly achieve this virtuous circle, you need to rethink the way you develop. One of the changes you need to consider is how to develop, test, and work with your team to deliver and collaborate to respond quickly to problems and opportunities.

Our approach to Enterprise DevOps is to lock down Visual Studio 2012 and System Center 2012. Today, the cloud operating system integrates the functionality of these new application lifecycle management. These include:

Global Service Monitor (GSM)-a new service in the System Center family that allows you to monitor and measure your applications from a worldwide node. GSM uses Web Tests, and you can use Visual Studio Ultimate version Development to replay scenarios for your application, and then measure availability and performance.

Lab Management and Windows 2012--have the system Center SP1 version and Visual Studio Update 1, and you can management lab with Windows 8 Hosts to simplify the flow of code from development to test environments-eliminating friction from your development process.

Event integration-with Operations manager and TFS/VS 2012 in System Center SP1, we have further streamlined the workflow for managing product accidents. An OPS engineer can easily escalate events to the development team for investigation within OPS manager. Dev can open diagnostic information in VS IntelliTrace debugging to quickly identify root cause.

These are just a few of the new features we're working on to simplify the modern generation, measure, and learn the development cycle. This is part of our commitment to continue to provide new value on a regular basis.

Everything you need to get from Vs/tfs is included in Update 1, which we launched at the end of November.
